I'm still alive..

Just completed the 3rd week of my course. Had 2 exams so far and managed to do quite well for both of them haha. Not the top of the class of course, but i'm content =) Noticed my fitness level is steadily climbing thanks to the physical training sessions and sports everyday hahaha, so i guess there's really nothing to complain about. Life is good! =D
As i mentioned before, i still sense this lingering social perception against "signing on" with the military. Perhaps much of the public stereotype the military as civil servants as a whole. Good pay, secure career, countless benefits, subsidies etc. But the truth remains that it is Singaporeans ourselves who have to do the job. You can hire foreign talent to run a company, or even give them citizenship to earn honors for the country. But when it boils down to times of tension, who can you really count on to defend the country?? I dare say that even some of the Singaporeans would flee the country at the very first sign of trouble.
My point is, ultimately, Singapore has to be defended by Singaporeans themselves. So why all the not-so-positive views about joining the SAF?
Then again, I admit that I didn't take up the LSA at first with the thought of "protecting our nation". But I'm glad that I'm slowing starting to appreciate it. =)
