Demoralised

Today was supposed to be a good day, even a happy day.

Why? Because I get to know about my performance bonus!

I mean, to get a bonus is definitely a satisfying thought, and the money would be much appreciated now that my bro is getting married and e family is running short financially.

Sadly, the thing about performance bonuses is that the bonuses are tied to.. well... performance.

Don't get me wrong. I was really optimistic about what I was gonna get. Bases on my conscience, I've been putting in loads of effort for the past year, especially with the overseas exercise preparations, rushing presentation slides, and doing countless reports, and covering my boss when he's not around.

Hence by my own judgement, I reckon I have quite a good standing amongst my peers.

Alas, that is not the case.

My colleague, who's from the same batch as me, got an entire additional month of bonus more than me.

An entire MONTH.

Of cos, my colleague may probably deserve it. Perhaps like me, he's thinking that he's been through loads of shit and put in alot of effort as well. But seriously, one month of difference?

We've compared our achievements for the past year before, and seriously we both thought I would be getting more than him.

So that leaves us with one possible explanation. Ranking was done last Jul/Aug, where we were still relatively new guys, so PROBABLY the bosses ranked us based on our tertiary results. He got first class honours. I got 2nd lower.

Not that I can accept that as a reason. He's alr been compensated in his monthly pay (which is $500 more than me btw), shouldn't bonuses be strictly based on effort and performance?

To rub salt into the wound, my boss is going to overseas for a conference soon, although even the system manager himself think I'm the more deserving one who should go. Great. I was the one who picked up all the shit for that particular system, and now my boss enjoys the overseas trip.

Just great.

First a low bonus, now a trip denied.

My theory is simple: pay me peanuts, and you get monkey's work

Good luck to you boss.
